The Folly , Mount Edgcumbe Park

The Folly is a splendid example of a picturesque ruin in the grounds of Mount Edgcumbe House, Cornwall . It was built around 1747 to replace a navigational obelisk , using medieval stone from the churches of St. George and St. Lawrence, Stonehouse. It is typical of the 18th century fashion among the landed gentry to create romantic ruins from scratch
